With my layout theme and era decided, a Pennsylvania shortline with logging and coal set in the steam/diesel transition, I was wondering how I would go about painting the locos/rolling stock and making my own decals for my locos and rolling stock.

I think I need to air brush the engines, right?

For the decals, I have a color photo printer/scanner. Is it as easy as printing what I want from a Word document to a specific type of paper? Any help whould be appreciated.

I was wondering this as one of the early diesels I want for switching comes undecorated. So I would need to paint and decal it.

    needs :
    - airbrush with all the things such as a compressor and all that stuff
    - decal paper
    - preferrably an alps printer or someone who's willing to print your decals

    steps :
    - disassemble the shell (remove windows, horns, handrails....)
    - clean everything with a toothbrush and some dishwasher detergent
    - either dry the shell with COLD air or let it dry
    - use non-powdered latex cloves from here since you don't want to have greasy fingerprints on your clean shell
    - use your airbrush
    - let the shell dry for a good time. i usually wait 48 hours before decal work starts
    - apply decals
    - protect paint and decals using dullcote or similar
    - add detail parts (windows, horns, handrails...)
    - put the shell on the drive and run a train
    - show it to your wife , point out some flaws and proof you really need another one of these engines to do it better
