The thin wire will be OK for one motor and short length, so if you are using the 'shipped' wires individually connected back to the switch for testing (ie. not extended or chained together) and a short length of something decent between the switch and CDU, then that should really be OK.

    You mean this?:

Looks about the same as yours to me. They are just showing three ways of controlling a single motor, but using standard kit instead of the Atlas 'wierd switch' :) .

You are wiring the motors in parallel aren't you (per your diagram)? Wiring them in series will certainly not work.

Mind you, I'm not familiar with that Atlas switch you have, though from what I can see on the web what you have looks about right. I wonder if the Atlas contacts can't handle the current?

The diagram I found also showed an 'AIU' that seemed to go to 'next switch', so there may be a 'proprietary' issue in here somewhere. (Edit: Or maybe not. Looking again the AIU is an MTH item, so must be something else)
If no-one here can help with this Atlas specific stuff you might need to go and join an Atlas forum and ask in there.

    aarrrgh! It's futile, I guess...

I got a reply from the CDU's manufacturer: "The Capacitive Discharge Unit is not compatible with Atlas switch machines".

    $40 down the drain. :tb-mad:

Looks like I was right after all :)
... but for the wrong reason :(

Bit odd that it worked with only one connected though. Most intriguing.

Sorry about your $40, but I'm sure you'll be able to recover most of it through resale.

HA! HA! I got it to work just fine by wiring in parallel and using proper wire gauge as suggested by CSX Robert on Atlas Forums. Bull-eye advice. It was too simple and obvious to figure out by myself.:tb-embarrassed:

In short, it goes like this:
Power pack -> CDU -> switch control box -> switch machines

See attachments for wiring scheme and picture of actual wiring.

    It's a good day!
