20+ years of N-Scale locomotives, cars, and Kato-track accumulation needs to be 'de-accumulated'. Condition runs from Never Opened but not 'New' to Could be cut up and used for scrap and lineside structures. Lots of Atlas, Micro Trains and quite a few other brands. Mostly knuckle couplers but quie a bit of Rapido as well. I am open to any and all suggestions on packing, shipping, pricing etc. Thanks folks, Steve
If you can send a list or post it, you could sell pieces individually. I use PayPal shipping using the USPS. I can print the shipping label at home and the mailman picks it up (I only ship maximum one item per day). If I have more, I would drive to the post office. If you want the link to ship via PayPal, let me know. For boxes, I reuse small boxes I’ve received and if that not enough, buy some from Walmart. 8x6x4 can fit one or two n scale items along with bubble wrap.
As long as you use Priority Mail, free shipping supplies are available from the USPS. Not available at most local post offices, anything other than flat rate packaging must be ordered for free, online. For up to around five standard plastic jewel-boxed N-Scale cars, the 1096L is my preferred Priority Mail shipping box. Probably a useful read for you, on my customers behalf, I wrote a blog article Packing Your N-Scale Trains For Safe Shipment. USPS 1096L boxes were used in the aforementioned article. Unless you are shipping really heavy items, overpriced in most cases, you want to avoid using USPS Flat Rate shipping. Large items or groups of products can be shipped in a USPS Priority Mail 1092, 1095, 1097, Box 4, Box 7, or Shoe Box carton. With the exception being certain detail parts and cardboard reinforced magazines and books, while they are cheap and extremely popular with some sellers, bubble pack envelopes should not be used to ship N-Scale kits, locomotives, or rolling-stock. If you are able to print your labels from home on a standard computer printer, with no surcharges or recurring monthly fees, Pirate Ship offers the best rates for USPS and UPS shipping. While you can use clear boxing tape to attach your printed postage label to a shipping carton, given that it makes it very difficult to scan a label's tracking number, you must not tape over the bar code that is located over the tracking number that is located near the bottom of the postage label. Hope the aforementioned shipping information is useful to you.
Do you have it all listed out? I have seen others with large lots list the items on an excel or google sheets.
@McWoot Thanks! I guess that is a starting place. I'm a bit over whelmed. Meanwhile I'm counting up my track pieces.
Maybe someone will come on who is close enough to help in person. Of course they would get first dibs, if you allow that.
Free PRIORITY MAIL boxes from USPS. I have used USPS Click-N-Ship for years. Print my own shipping labels, with postage, and NEVER had a problem. I will be looking into Pirate Ship also. Since I drove for a Contractor at FedEx for about 5 years tractor trailer, line haul, I picker up a few things. Always OVER-PACK, PERIOD! Pack up what you are selling/shipping and hold it out at an arm's length, and DROP it onto a concrete floor. Then open up your box, check contents, see if anything is broken. If anything is broken, YOU DID A POOR PACKING JOB. Almost all of the sorting is now done by machines, a FRAGILE label means nothing to the sorter. If whatever you are shipping has a high value, pay for INSURANCE. Always include a PACKING LIST, with your name, [sender], what you are sending, [ I always put a detailed list here], and the receiver's address/name. This way IF a box gets damaged, you and the receiver can instantly know if something is missing/damaged. Keep a copy of your packing list for yourself. You can use UPS Stores for shipping, but they are a little high priced in my book, and their packing can leave a little to be desired. My local [So. Indiana] UPS Terminal has a Self-Service desk and will ship anything, you have packed up your self. You can find UPS rates online with no problems.
Hi again Steve, we had some discussion about this back in Sept. 2, '21. Primarily the Kato tracks. I do have a Kato oval with the siding, three DC engines and three N scale box cars. Back then I was unsure of income and had hopes of going to HO DCC. I still have the uncertainties and lack of room so the HO steamers will have to wait for a switching track. Let me know what's available in N scale Kato track and maybe some freight cars. I do have some savings since then.
