I plan on attending this year for the first time.

Is there anyone that can speak to what the parking situation is like?

As a reward to myself, I am going this year. I plan to spend a week around the Milwaukee area with a side trip up to Green Bay to visit the National Railroad Museum.

A little disappointed with the lack of railroad related locations/activities that I have found while doing research. As the original home of the NMRA, Kalmbach (MR etc), and Walthers I thought that there would be a lot of railroad related locations. Lots of beer and cheese stuff but very little railroading.

Any suggestions on what to do while I am there in addition to Trainfest?

TrainFest is a great time and well worth it. I've been going for years both as a spectator and now as an exhibitor. I can honestly say, I still enjoy it !

I enjoyed my visit to Trainfest. It took me about 1 1/2 days to see everything. That didn't include time for shopping. A lot more layouts than I expected and fewer retail dealers. I ended up spending less than $10 on merchandise because I didn't want to carry stuff back on the plane.

I would recommend that anyone going in the future take along food and drinks. It was typical state fair/sports venue price gouging by the food concessions, $4.50 for a soda and $7.50 for a small turkey sub sandwich. For the second day I stopped by the Walmart's deli on the way to get my lunch, a lot better food and a lot less costly. There is a McDonalds just outside the venue as an option. You can get your hand stamped to get back in.

If this is the big show in Milwaukee, it's been 10 years since I've been there. But even then it's as you all say.

Heck I used to live only 3 blocks from what is often called the main entrance. I knew several places to go for trains close by but that before 1990. Now I go up to Green Bay for train related stuff. Including the real things. ;)
