16 diesel locomotives,1steam,diesels all painted SCL.28 freight cars,4 cabooses,14 passenger cars.definitely in need of more, when finances improve,(off due to recent heart attack).
328 rolling stock, and 50 locomotives. And I need more. ALWAYS MORE. I don't NEED this many, but can't bear to part with any!
Be thankful you model in N scale (I think as I look at your display cases). I am display case challenged with HO - not enough wall space!
Well, Just cleaned up the layout and added and removed some rolling stock...171 cars on the layout and another 50 or so stored...22 Kato F units, but only 10 on the layout...BUT, that does;t includethe 700+ cars I've built and sold.
Lou!!! Love all the NEPA color in them cases! For many of you that are guessing, add a whole bunch!!!! I recently began 'baying some of my excess to pick up some extra cash (New Trains) and thought, "Oh I'll sell 100 or so out of these extras". Turned out there was about 400 extras, and I didn't even get into my nTrak travel boxes. And don't forget to count the round tuit project boxes. 40 years of collecting adds up fast!
Thread like this have a way of reminding me that there are many others with the same affliction... trainaholic. Let me lay down on the couch and tell you a quick story... I had been exposed to model railroading as a kid and had an HO layout that slid under the bed. As a kid... I didn't have the funds to do much and I always wanted a large collection of trains running on a large layout like the ones in Model Railroader. To my dismay... when my parents decided to move from Maryland to Florida... my trains were NOT in 'their' plans. All of my trains were sold to a friends kids for $20.00... and they threw in my 5 speed bike to sweeten the deal!!! OMG... no wonder I'm so sick. Fast forward 13 years... I thought it would be a good time to revisit my own childhood... at 25 years old. I began in N scale in late 1982 after I got married and had our first child 'on the way'. Times were tough and my collection was a Trix passenger set (Santa Fe) and a D&RGW PA-1 several assorted Atlas and Roco freight cars. This was the begining of what has become an EMPIRE OF N SCALE. Unfortunately things got carried away in an unmanaged and obsessively compulsive manner. During the 'good' years of 2002 to 2008... the collection blossomed... okay EXPLODED to what it is now. I have tried to catalogue my 'Empire' on several occasions... only to get tired and give up because of the size and scope of job... or I just don't want to know. I can only venture a guess at where I stand on my collection. About: 500 diesels 100 steamers 2500 freight cars/MOW etc 300 passenger cars (includes individual cars in sets) & thousands of accesories (buildings, vehicles, details parts & figures) The layout is unfinished... about 8'x16.5' "E" shaped. NOWHERE NEAR LARGE ENOUGH FOR THE STUFF ACCUMULATED. The revenue car versus locomotive ratio is at 5:1... which is a bit loco heavy. Funny thing is my wife say the collection is okay. But she says I'm the one that 'loco' and 'heavy'. Though I should get a second opinion... she said I was 'ugly' too. My three kids love my collection too... they always ask how I'm feeling... and who's getting the collection when I 'kick-the-bucket'. It sure is nice to be loved by your family... umm... I think???
I am over 17,000 cars and 1,500 locos. It has been a great journey to find all that I have. I have made some wonderful freinds over the years. Some of my collection is almost complete. My fovorite is the Lone Star made in England. I love it all and always will. Here you are . Todd
Wow! Todd, I am blown away by those photos and the magnitude of your collection. That's amazing! Charlie
Wow! I am amazed by these collections! This reminds me that I should find a way to keep track of my stuff. I have some N scale and HO scale models (the HO stuff is from back when I was in high school up until early in my marriage). I just remember a girl I was dating a few years ago asking me, "Why do you have so many trains?" I answered, "Because I'm not done yet."
Around 30 locomotives, around 600 freight cars, and 8 passenger/commuter cars. The freight cars break out roughly 3:2:2:1:1 (Manifest:Intermodal:Coal:Grain:Misc). Started building the fleet in 1999.
WOW that's crazy nicely organized. Mine are all stored away in three cabinets. I have about two hundred freight cars. I searched high and low for some of them.
TODD IS MY HERO! I don't come close to his collection, but I have passenger cars- about 175 engines- about 325 freight cars- about 2100 The best part is every month it increases. I love thr MTL weathered cars. Although, I have curved my buying. I hate the new wheels. They don't play well with code 80. I change out the wheels on all new equipment.
That is the most impressive display of a model railroad collection I have ever seen. That is an awesome room to kick back and watch some Green Frog and Pentrex videos in.
Well, I would say...but... I don't know what to say. I can't say anything. I have never seen anything like it. I am stunned. Amazing.
