How do you make run down trackage look real in N Scale?

    Do not use needle nose pliers as they can introduce sharp kinks which would be derailment-prone. I used small duckbill pliers, and tested each bend with a freight car truck as I went along, trying my hardest not to overdo it lol.

    It's Code 40 HOn3 in the sepia picture.

    You can use the same technique in N Scale and end up with something similar.

    I have a small chisel (not sure if that's exactly what it's called) and I tap the track with the chisel and a hammer. It takes a couple hits to be noticeable at all, and I usually do this on spurs, sidings, etc. Then some paint, and well-placed static grass tufts that won't even risk impeding operation.
