hey all i seem to vaguely remember a thread about the actual workbenches that we all use. I do not know which of the many forum that it was on but i need to get a new bench for my one bedroom apartment. space is about 3 feet wide and can be as deep (to hold projects in development) as necessary. I have cats so something that could fold up would be best. got to protect the little parts from becoming toys.
Anyone have some plans or ideas?
    Thanks

I built this into a tiny bedroom (Train Room) closet. It's 8.5 square feet and is an inexpensive piece of melamine, removable for when it is time to do something different.

I can guarantee you it is not this tidy looking right now.

With enough space at the end to fold laundry so the wife would approve of my building it in the first place.

I felt I only needed a desk space to work, so I designed the desk to fit the space available. I didn't design it to hold any special tools or have any electrical outlets on it, although electrical outlets are near.

My workbench was, and I do mean was, a 5 foot by 30 inch computer desk inherited from a child who finished college and moved on. A large work surface with shelves and drawers, it is now piled high with projects in progress and other junk. No room to work.

My present workbench for light work is the kitchen table. An advantage is that I am forced to clean off my stuff before supper at the end of the day. Plus it is right next to the garage where the messier work requiring vises, clamps, moto-tools, saws, drills and the like is done. Painting, a once every few months chore, utilizes the vent-a-hood over the kitchen cook surface to exhaust paint fumes from a portable homemade spray booth. And the kitchen sink is handy for cleaning up after using acrylic paints.

We even use the kitchen for cooking sometimes.

We bought the house. There was a workbench in a storage area in the basement. I said to my wife "I have designs on that workbench". That is how I designed my workbench. It was already there.

Here is a 4 ft roll top desk I got cheap while overseas. It has held up through many moves and countries. Now it sits in the corner of a small 1 bedroom apartment 3rd floor walkup. If the cats get to be too much, I just roll down the doors and it is never this clean:cool:

    Good one!!

Satokuma. Be gentle on that roll top desk. Some of those are pretty valuable pieces.

I'm trying to use Atlas RTS to design my workbench. Does anyone know where I can get a template for a vise? And where can I find a screwdriver set in ON3?
