A similar night waiting scene to one I'd experienced this past summer. The Builder was about 3 hours off her schedule. Boxcab E50
Did anyone notice there are no Lounge cars on that days Builder? Any idea why? Also the second set of pictures seem to have 2 lounge cars on the front of the train not middle. Any info on that?
Great Amtrak photos. Wonder why there is no lounge car. Is the train eastbound? The lounge car is part of the Portland section of the Builder. The lounge car provides meal service on that part of the route between Portland and Spokane. In another item Amtrak train 14 got stuck by frozen and burried switches in Portland yesterday. The train was in sight of Union Station and sat for three hours while the switches were cleared. Relatives of the passengers gettting off at portland drove to the train and picked up their passenger. Cascade Service between Eugene and Vancouver BC is shut down this morning account snow and frozen switches.
In January of 1981 I rode the Lone Star from Houston to Temple, Texas over part of the old ATSF Texas Chief Route. The morning sun is rising over the locomotive in this shot before I boarded the train.
Russell, it almost looks like a halo....well, maybe Amtrak is heavenly blessed, having survived for more than 37 years against the devils in Washington, and with no visible means of support.
