Managed to get this rather rushed and distant snap of the Shanks and McEwan rubbish train passing through Hendon on Wednesday evening hauled by a class 59 (I think); I had left the station to walk home but heard the sound of the diesel and just managed to sprint back, extract the camera from its bag, switch on and shoot before the train disappeared.

The Midland line parallels the M1 motorway for 3 or 4 miles here (before the M1 turns sharply west and the railway enters Elstree tunnel) and there are good possibilities for chasing and shooting moving trains (with someone else driving the car of course!).

You are really trying hard to get some pics for us to share, Ben [IMG] I would like to see those rubbish cars up close, to compare them with their American counterparts.

    The motorway looks quiet!

I should be able to get some close up shots of the cars within the next few days; I also have some more shots of Thameslink units which I am waiting to put on the web; direct image uploading to Trainboard will be great when it comes as it will save so much time by cutting out one of the operations I presently have to perform before the images can be made available to view.

I must have just caught the motorway at a quiet moment; it was 7.35 in the evening and it is normally pretty busy at that time, especially in the "down" direction!

    Ben,
Which company provides the loco for this service ? I have done a little jiggery-pokery with your photo (using Adobe Photoshop)and it appears to be EWS.....is this correct? I know that the subject is a little distant but I am really impressed with the performance of your camera. It has frozen the train and the motorway vehicles really well. The lighting at this time of the day is really difficult and increasing the exposure for the low light areas could result in a blurred image. Maybe letting the camera do it's thing and then manipulating the photo with software to increase the brightness and contrast is the answer ?
    Best wishes,
    John.
