Was looking at some N scale items when I thought I would try searching for HOn30 things. Found these , http://www.shapeways.com/shops/shapeways.com/shops/Jeevi http://www.shapeways.com/shops/koala_creek http://www.shapeways.com/search?q=hon30&sort=name http://www.shapeways.com/shops/tebee Last one has the most. interesting stuff. Rick
I've seen the tebee page. Will need to look at those others. Tebee has a couple of interesting engine shells, but they require a chassis which is a bit of an oddball. I emailed an inquiry about making similar to fit more common in North American N such as the VO1000, SW9/1200, etc. Never received a response, so gave up.
That would be an excellent base. I, too, have eyeballed it. What should do well is a very readily available end and center cab casting. I know Tebee has them, but wishing someone here in North America would.....
I was thinking that one also. I have both but the 70 ton I have marked for my N scale Steel mill. Well ,that is the plan. I guess the thing is to see which one fits without to much grinding.
I was looking at the Tebee shells for the Kato 11-105 chassis. It has a low profile design that would probably leave room for a decoder and unlike the Tomix TM-05, is readily available from Japan. (About $25 plus shipping.) The wheel base on the 11-105 is 1.25' and overall length for the chassis is 2.25". The Bachmanns are nice because they already have DCC, though.
How close do any of the Tebee versions come to fitting something such as the Bachmann switchers? The Kato 11-105, if I recall, does not have truck sideframes? So what does a person use to adapt for the Kato?
The 11-105 has sideframes (as does the 11-106 and 11-107) but some folks would probably want to change them. The mechs all look the same and only the sideframes are different. The wheelbase for the 11-105 appears to be about .44" but that's more of an estimate. What are the dimensions for the Bachmann 44 Ton and 70 Ton switcher chassis?
I don't know about the 70 tonner. I had recently asked about the 44 ton switcher and was told 39mm truck centers. Chassis height, (w/o shell), of 19-20mm top of rail to top of frame.
Okay. A little bit longer wheelbase than the 11-105. I checked and the 11-105 is 15.9mm to the top of the mech.
Sorry for not replying but I thought I was getting emails when someone added a reply but had none. I will messure the 70ton and 44 ton today. The 44 ton is taken apart because I was thinking of making it Nn3 ,didn't work . One of the reasons I have been eyeing HOn30.Other chose was On30 but HOn30 is winning so far . Rick
Let us know what you find. I was dabbling in On30, but am parting ways (FS) with it. Used to be inexpensive, but prices have escalated. Between my health and space issues, just won't be able to pursue it. So, I continue with my N scale and look to get back in HOn30, via a couple of modules.
The 70 Ton Backmann comes out to. 36mm mid truck to mid truck 53mm is the lenth of the frame 9mm wide 14mm high These are with out the shell on it and hight is with the DCC board on. The 44 ton I can't find it in my project shelve so I put it in a good hding place I guess. Rick
Did you find your 44T yet? I'm hoping to confirm the measurements. The information I quoted previously seems to be larger for a 44T than what you show for the 70T. Somehow what I was provided must be wrong!
Tebee apologies if I've missed replying to anyone, but I've been mad busy for the last few months, both with models and stuff in the rest of my life - we bought a couple of houses to renovate and rent out, but have managed to run out of money to pay contractors which was the original plan. Yours truly is doing most of the work himself. The reasons I've used the Kato chassis are 1) they are cheap and good running 2) they are available continuously unlike the batch production of many North American locos 3) they are easily obtainable in most of the world - I good portion of my Shapeways sales goes to Europe and Australia 4) I can afford to buy them to measure them up! I'd like to expand my range to cover other chassis but funds are short - it's summer and my Ebay sales are right down, though the stuff bought direct from Shapeways still seems to be selling well. If sales get better I'll pick up some US chassis over the winter and see what I can design for them. I do the big box cab which is designed to go on a Lifelike FA1 chassis - I may try doing a center cab to fit this too. Next thing to come out in HOn30 is a range of 13ft 4 wheeled cars complete with chassis and designed to take MacHenry couplers. Tom
A fair number of people have moved away from that "auction" venue altogether. Following discussions here and other places, there is a good amount of unhappiness about the whole operation. So you may be seeing an ongoing trend. Is this the shell which measures 9.848cm in length? Do you have a particular coupler in mind for the mounting area I can see in your photo? For my purposes, I use the M/T 1015 and 1025.
Must admit Ebay is not my favorite place as a seller either, but it does get your product in front of a lot of people and as a buyer you can find obscure things from the other side of the world that would be very hard to get elsewhere. The loco is this one. - http://www.shapeways.com/model/195801 It's made to fit Micro trains couplers but I can't remember which one now ! Tom
OK. That is the one I'd spotted after your last post. Trying to think here- Is the LL chassis the same as the Atlas? I should know, but have not paid attention as the FA isn't used by the RR I model in N scale.
Sorry Boxcab I keep forgeting to look.My fault. Will do it this week end. Thanks Tebee for even making HOn30 stuff. Rick
