I’m getting ready to drill out the headlight casting so I can install led lighting. What diameter drill bit would best do the job?

This is the body shell in question.
    Thanks

Do you have a pin vise bit set? You will just have to do trial and error. There is not a 'right' bit, especially with relatively arbitrary dimensions like this. Who knows if the Athearn headlight is exactly the same as a Details West part? You best bet is going to be starting off small and working your way up. The key is to to drill out the concave portion while keeping the bezel intact.

A 1/16” bit did the trick.
