Can anyone tell me the background on GP 38-2 #491. I've seen in Don Stracks 2001 Directory that 491 was suppose to be the ex SP 4865, however back on July 16th, SP 4865 was re#'d to UP 1990 by mistake. Then the next day it was numbered to UP 493. Did UP GP38-2 # 1993 which was suppose to be Re#'d 493 get dropped into the UP 491 slot? Duane
This one is/was a royal UP bag of worms. I have no record of 1993/491. Here is what I have. SP 4865 was supposed to be renumbered to 493 but instead became 1990, which is a number that is allocated for GP60 renumberings. To fix this problem and to place the 1990 into the proper "493" slot it was renumbered correctly the following day, before it left the shop. UP 1990 (GP38-2), renumbered from SP 4865 on 7/16/01 UP 493 (GP38-2), renumbered from UP 1990 on 7/17/01
