ok, I'm new here..but I have recently discovered 6, (yes, 6), Milwaukee passenger cars here in Kansas City, Mo..Pullman, RPO, diner, not sure how many of each..being restored for temporary display at Union Station here, not sure how long they'll be here, or where they're going from here, But I'm going to try to keep close track of them as long as possible

    Welcome!

Have been trying to find a couple of stories I once had bookmarked. Those cars were moved in a year or so back. AFAIK- They are to be a permanent display feature.

Haven't heard much about them lately. So maybe you can keep us updated!

I'll do my best..I know one of the pullman cars is inside the Science City exhibit area, the rest I believe, are at American Car & Foundry, ( I think that's where they told me they were) being restored..I know it was someplace nearby....I'm filling out paperwork to become a volunteer at Union Station, so I can probly get any info anyone needs in those regards...

I stumble into some awesome situations, don't I?..lol

Well, whether just following their progress, or better yet, if you do get that volunteer position, it'll be an interesting experience!

Ken, I have also heard that the group that rebuilt the Cedar Rapids car have purchased a full dome car from some scenic railroad in North Carolina. They are bringing back to the Twin Cities to be put back to original Milwaukee.

Andy, the group that did that is the Friends of the 261. They not only got the car, but it has run on excursions already. I got this photo inside of the car during the July NRHS convention steam special here in Oregon. These guys do great work. :D

Yes. I'd heard about that dome car. Believe it needed some truck work, and a couple other things, and was ready to go.

But as yet I have not seen a good view of it's exterior. Did they repaint in O/M/B?

Don't forget the "Skytop" observation car at the end of the train! [IMG] By the way, the guy in the hat looks like he's having fun? ;) [IMG]

Kurt, you must know that railfanning is exhausting! Actually he's one of the NRHS chapter volunteers, given away by the blue vest. Those guys (and I was one) didn't get much sleep that week. It was a great convention. Ken, I can't remember but am pretty sure the car wasn't yet painted into Milw colors, but there are plans. [IMG]

He's done a great job, coming up with avatars for even some obscure companies. I'm sure he'll be able to help you!

speaking of my modeling efforts..I just found a bound 1975 volume of Model Railroader..all 12 issues..I was born in '75..and there seems to be something in almost every issue regarding the Hiawatha...even a picture of an old storage shed somewhere in southern Wisconsin..which from what I have turned up..no longer exists...if anyone needs anything from that year, let me know

ok..I should have put this in under an actual modeling topic..so you'll be seeing it again
