Different Rick here!

In my, relatively, short time here, this has been one of the best self-policing boards I've been on. I attribute this to the subject matter, as YoHo says, above - we're here to discuss something very specific (but that hasn't stopped others from diverging and arguing, on other boards).

However - I must say to Darren that my daughter insists on playing Joe Dassin's "Salut les amoureux", so I appreciate seeing the lyrics that really go with the music.

"Oh, I've been working on the railroad....."

I'm a site admin for a General interest board and a mod for a Disney board...both are significantly smaller than this place, but they are also both splinter boards made by people who felt persecuted by over active moderators and admins. A lot of people think of it as a power trip....and its not age related as I've seen plenty of older mods be as foolish as a teen admin. I am constantly impressed by the self censorship and the moderating here. Again, I'd prefer things not be deleted ever, but all in all, I have little to complain about.

I think, as an admin, I'd prefer never to delete anything.

I'd also prefer that deer didn't jump in front of cars, as there was a horrible crash in town last night when someone swerved to miss a deer and hit a tree head on.

There are just some realities. Posters "lose it" and post some nasty stuff. Some threads seem destined to nastiness--experiences with etailers and retailers, for example. Or politics and religion. By far the majority of deletions here are never seen by members. These are plain and simple spam--for cell phones, prescription drugs, Nigerian estates--you name it. We catch most of them before they make it to the forums, but not all.

I think the Red Sox are going to make the playoffs and lose in the first round. They are something like 50-20 against weak teams and 20-50 against strong teams.

But the commuter rail system around Boston is very nice today. If it had been in place 20 years ago, I never would have left. Actually it WAS IN PLACE but not used.

Pete,

Your moderation and actions taken here have always been appreciated by this participant. I can extend the same compliment to all who serve here on this administration.

I'm an ardent advocate for freedom of speech...as long as we keep it civil. Meeting of the mines can be productive and stimulating.

You've allowed me to make my point here and I appreciate that. At no time do I want to go head to head with other participants and be a disparaging influence.

P.S. Don't forget we have another "hidden" forum here we call "The Cattle Car" where memebrs can sign up to also see topics that are non-RR related that are also happening here. It's a place where we relax even our rules and let fellow TrainBoard members talk about "other" stuff that doesn't fit into other forums.

Can you believe the Rockies might make the MLB Playoffs as the NL Wildcard team!

Hijack all you want.

On the thread closings and editing. There are people out there who use boards for personal vendettas against other individuals and e-tailers, advancement of their own political, religious and ethnic views, who are PUI (posting under the influence of drink or drugs) or who just generally need a soapbox and Trainboard is on their Favorites list.

We have a very good grip on where threads are going and they are constantly monitored and discussed by the admins and mods at a cost of many more man hours than anyone would rationally believe possible.

You moderators and Administrators get paid? No that's not what you said. Quoting Fotheringill "At a cost of many more man hours than anyone would rationally believe possible". I believe that to be true.

Red Sox, out of Cincinnati, OH?

We thought hell had frozen over once before when they went to the play offs. Seems Pete Rose got caught with his pants down in a gambling bust. Not our Pete but the manager of the Red Sox.

If admins and moderators get paid, I need to file a complaint with HR for missing paychecks :). I am paid by the feeling of ultimate power and control....or that I simply wanted to lend a hand in keeping Trainboard a fun place to interact with other railroad addicts like myself :).

I think the actual line is "Cows go MOO, and sheep go BAH, and three singing pigs go LA, LA, LA". (now, identify that one). :pwink:

We get paid in aggravation, but do it as a service to a facility that benefits people who have an interest in trains from 1:1 down to T.

So now "they" say the recession is starting to end (?) is the aggro:$ rate going to rise or fall?
My guess is that during the recession there was an excess of aggro, so the price probably fell, along with other commodities. In which case it will now rise and it's a good time to buy some to sit with my copper and aluminium.

In response:

From my vantage point it looks like we have hit bottom. There is only one way to go and that's up. A lot can happen on the way back up. The ride can be like a roll a coaster with dip's that take us right back down to the bottom or lower. Me thinks there is a basement we have yet to explore.

The light at the other end of the tunnel may actually be a freight train coming through.

Hey, all you SP fans and history buffs in general. There is a cool Google Books web site with first five volumes of the company news letter "Sunset" available. Mostly real estate propaganda trying to get people to invest along the SP as it was in the late 1800s and early 1900s. However, some good reading about the era.
