I am new to the model RR and am looking forward to planning and making my layout. I am open to all suggestions and am looking at code 83 HO track with DCC. I am starting from scratch and looking very much to the fun. I am from Central New York and live less than a half mile from the main line and about 10 miles east of the Minoa CSX Yard.
Welcome aboard! Do you have a preferred prototype to model? Era? You'll find plenty of great threads here. Don't be afraid to ask questions!
Welcome aboard from a former Central NY'er, but long gone from there. You will find plenty of help here.
NYHowie, Welcome to TrainBoard!!! On my layout, I like to use 3/4 inch plywood as a base and then add 1/2 inch blue and 3/4 inch pink insulation foam before installing roadbed and track. By doing this you can carve scenery below track level. This will be enough room for a small stream in HO, about 9.5 feet. The blue foam being installed first will act as a warning track, to borrow a baseball term, when carving so you don't go too deep. I use a keyhole saw for carving, it makes quick work on the foam, would suggest you do carving outdoors because it can be a mess. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. Joe
Hi Howie, Welcome. Oh Man, do you ever ring hometown bells. I grew up on the NYC Harlem Division, and often rode from Bedford Hills to Chatham, then on to North Adams.MA on the B&A, Loved the Hudson Division, especially at Harmon where they changed from Electric to Steam, and vice-versa. Ask me anything on the Harlem and Hudson Division, and Jim (Fitz) on the Mohawk Division. We may not know the answer immediately, but we can research it.
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I am not sure yet as to Era, Prototype, ect. crusing a lot of web sites till something catches my eye.
