Hi Lee, Welcome to the TrainBoard, happy to have you onboard.

Assuming that most international railfans view US freight trains as massive high-horsepower behemoths, I would like to offer a photo showing the opposite side of the coin. This photo was taken on the Kansas City Southern branchline that runs near my home. The crew was sent 5-6 miles up the line to pick up the gondola. The caboose was needed because the return was a backing move across many roadway level crossings and the caboose's air whistle was required to signal the crossings. Of course motorists never heard the caboose's wimpy whistle because their windows were closed, air conditioner operating, and radio blaring, but that's the law...LOL

Hey guys thanks for the replies, nice picture hytec it is definitely in contrast to the usual images of multi-loco consists. I must admit I find the US rail system a lot more interesting than ours with a lot more variation of both loco's and operators as well some amazing scenery but then our entire rail system is probably only equal in size to some US states.

Welcome Lee. Your point about the US freight scene is well taken, but there is something to the passenger scene "over there" with DMU's and EMU's, as well as the old Class 37's (call me strange, I just like the look of them). Good luck with your plans!

The class 37's are definitely a strange looking loco I just cant decide if I love it or hate it lol, they remind me a little bit of the old E/F-units just rather more box shaped.
