Here's a link I found to a really great story on the Milwaukee Road's Pacific Coast Extension in its final years, as seen, photographed and written by Blair Kooistra for CTC BOARD and later printed on his own website. Dust in the Wind Hope you like.
Bob- I do have that page bookmarked. It has some nice photography. I knew Blair when he lived up here in the Pacific NW. At the time he took the pictures. (He was only in high school back then!) The story gets a little more into personal conclusion, rather than history. Boxcab E50
I just bought a DvD, and lemmetellya, you NEED this video, if you have one shred of Milwaukee left in your heart! http://www.pentrex.com/milwdvd.html
I do have that one. Bought it from them when it first came out on VHS. It's one of the best out insofar as being error free narration, and picture quality. Sure brings back memories. And you can quickly see why I'm stuck in the '60's for Milw, NP, etc! Boxcab E50
That would have been in the segment at Lombard. Hard to believe that at one time there were two railroad depots, passengers, an interchange yard, and several hundred residents! Boxcab E50
It's hard to picture what once was there. The old Montana RR shops. A town of about 300 population. Milw and NP depots. Interchange yard. For anyone who has seen it, the opening scenes from the 1930 movie "Danger Lights" were filmed about a half mile east of the Milw depot. Boxcab E50
I agree on the Pentrex videos. I got the three Milwaukee electric videos on DVD for 39.95. They are simply fabulous.
