this is the begining of my track. sorry for the lack of dimensions, roughly L shaped room with long wall 16' 11" and side wall 11' 4". So any imput at all would appricaited. Once again , n scale and I am not ruling out double decking!!!!! , new twist, maybe extending into other room for more staging.

Hey Greg, Is this an around the wall layout with the island sticking out? Just trying to picture it cause your drawing dosn't have the inside layout edges on it. Nice yard though and you really will be able to run some long trains on it. One other thing I just thought of, you might want to run your main line around your yard. This way you can be playing in the yard and still have a train running on your main line around the layout!! :D

    Andy,

give me time bud!!, I just got his here new thing called 3rd planit, as the country song goes, " I am learning as I go". The yard.... good idea, sort of like 19 and 20 main at proviso, they go all the way from the begining by the IHB overpass to the northbond mains towards that cheese state.. I was thinking bout having the main on a curve like wave, with yard being the straight portion and the main being the curved portion.

One thing that hit me, Hey!!!!, I have another room I can use also, heck I do in it is sleep, lol. I am going to have bench work at 56", and more and more I think about , double deck is doable. The long train comment is right, unit grain and some unit CEPX trains from the powder river basin, and BN taconite trains. One thing I have learned over the years, when I have a idea, I write it down or make a little drawing. Another idea that I had was a curved yard, but MT couplers wont be centered to couple, or un couple over magnets. So straight it is.

Adios for now, headed to a train show in Humble , tx saturday. so ya'll take care pronounced umble, no H . He was the man that founded Texaco, adios

Like the track plan. What minimum radius are you going with?

    Frisco,
I can't quite make my mind up about that. LOL. I thought about 18", but that would change the plan around some. As we speak I am working a new plan now, I am putting the bench work on the plan first, so I can see what limits I have.

I see you from sherman, have you been to discount trains in Addison yet. I would go if you have not been, everything is 20% off. . Fer exmaple atlas cd 55 turnouts,, 7.96.

I am modeling n scale, any suggestions in radius????. Adios from texas!!!!!, wyatt

When I look at your plan, it appears to me that you have the entire room. If that is the case, then consider a "nolix".

At the top of the layout forum, you can set the number of days that comes up, set the "setting" to show all threads, then look for ones with nolix in the title, start with the most recent and go backward.

If I am right you can have tons of mainline running in two decks.

Also consider a third deck that is strictly for staging under neath the first deck - maybe only 6 inches down. It wouldn't occupy the entire underneath (accessibility would be a problem) but maybe the first 10 inches or so.

Also when building, build the first two decks, and after they are done, add the the third lower staging deck.

Also behind the "nolix" you can have staging.

    Rick,

Thank you for the input!. Sounds like a great idea you have. Here is a thought, the room has ten foot walls. hmmmmm another floor, making it possible to do sort of a mushroom??? hmmmmmmmm.

Whoa Trigger, I better rein myself in on that one, that would be a paramount project to do by one person, ME.

I will do the Nolix search when I get home from work, darn computer justs likes to takes it own sweet time early in the morning, 6:15 am central time. Adios from texas. Time to make the doughnuts!!!!! Wyatt

    Wyatt,
Not only have I been to Discount Trains, but I was a customer at Bobbye Hall's Hobby House until I moved to Colorado in 1999. It was a dark day when the grande dame of Texas model railroading closed her doors, but nobody else was able to purchase the store.

As soon as I get a little mad money saved back, I'm headed back to Addison!

I'm an HO scaler myself, but if I were modeling in N, I wouldn't go any smaller than 15" or so, and 18" on the main line (mostly for appearance).

    Frisco,
I hear ya on the mad money thing. It is 250 mile round trip to go to Addison, but hey it is worth it. I have the soo line rs-1's on order there. It is a pretty nice shop. One of the few nice ones that I have been in. And they also seem freindly there also, been in plenty of shops where it was apparent that you were bothering them by asking questions.

I for one would like to sit down and pick the brain of a person that owns Easy Dcc and Digitrax, to see which is the better system for the dollar. Call me a weirdo, but just from the looks of it, I like the Easy Dcc system better, the handhelds seem to fit the hand better more comfortable. Or do I call it a wash and stick with block wiring????. I wish I knew I dont have much more hair to pull out over the subject.

Well Adios fer now, off to mess with 3 rd planit fer a bit. Wyatt
