Built a Bowser Atlantic using a NWSL gear tower and a can motor. Installed a Tsunami (TSU 750, light steam) decoder. Everything runs and sounds great EXCEPT, that advancing the throttle from zero to step one of 128 causes the engine to jump to life going maybe 10 MPH.

I adjusted the starting voltage to one and then zero and have tried both ends of the speed tables in case I didn't understand them.

I also adjusted CV116 to 6 and then CV117 to 1. No observable difference.

The mechanism (valve gear) is not binding.

I am using an NCE Power Cab.

    What else can I try?

First make sure that you don't have any speed tables in CV29 on. Next set CV2, CV3 and CV4 to zero. Now set CV209 and CV210 to zero. Now adjust up CV210 until the loco starts to move at speed step 1. It will be jerky, Now set CV209 until it smoothes out. You might have to set 209 and 210 several times until you are happy.
Now you can set the rest of the CSV’s like CV 2,3 and 4.
Do all of this on the program track in the programming mode.

Thank you soooo much. I have been fighting with this problem for quite a while and you fixed it for me. Can't tell you how happy I am.

I use to drule over Bowser adds back when I had little time and less money. This past summer I found an E 6 kit in a Seattle hobby shop. It is my first effort at building a steam engine and I wanted it to look great and run great. I fabricated electrical pick ups so all drivers and all tender wheels are hot and the thing will run thru any switch and never blink a light let alone stall. Now I have the ability to coast to a slow stop and start with silky smooth performance.

Thank you again for your help!

Mark, I take it that this worked!
You should be able to make you loco just creep along now.
And you are welcome. Glad to have helped
