My Kato Gp-38-2 was running erractically last nite so i took it apart and noticed a number of loose wires on the armature. I'm assuming this is not a good thing. Can this be repaired/are replace motors available?

    Bob.

Wires sticking out does not sound good! I don't know if someone out there might have a spare used motor. Or maybe a new one sitting around?

You could try the Kato web site, and see if a contact for parts could be made via that route: www.katousa.com

Hope it all works out for you.

I am amazed that you had a GP 38 last this long and then go bad. I am sure KATO won't fix it for free after all this time. Mine didn't last a week, so they fixed mine. The original GP 38 shell was too close to the armature and would sometimes rub. The second run had the shell modified to provide more clearance. KATO has replacement motors on sale. The problem is that the plus side of the manufacturing tolerance for the motor armature diameter is greater than what the shell provides. (I assume that what you have is a first run shell.) Thus replacing the motor won't insure it won't happen again.
