Ok Gang here is a problem I am having. I have one switch Atlas (code 55 dead frog) that is giving me problems when running slow. I can run fast thru with no problems, I can also run analog loco's slow with no problems. Now I did the quarter trick to make sure I have adequate power to the areas before and after the frog. Then I checked for clean rails and cleaned wheels and checked pickup areas on unit's.....Am I missing something else??????? Is their any other CV's that I can change so that when running slow it does not stall then reset on the switch.

    Mike:

What decoders are you using ? Or does it happen with all decoders?

Hey Bob...Right now I just have three decoders two DN163K1A and one for my 90 Mac. And that one was sent to Digitrax for repair  Now it does'nt happen all the time but I would say 7 out of 10 times going Very Slow

    Mike:

Turn off the BEMF function (CV57) set it to zero

The BEMF in the Digitrax decoders often plays havoc with the loco's slow speed.

You can always reset CV 57 to it's default value of 08. If you reset increase CV 57 to 12-13.

First test the loco's with CV 57 set to zero. Then reset CV 57 to 13.

Let me know if that helps you.

Either that or power the frog and have it change with the throw (ie using a Tortoise switch machine). When using DCC I don't like not having any piece of track unpowered.

Harron, I am not a DCC guy, but maybe up mike means an insulated frog, so it can't be powered. I, too, like the elecrofrogs better. But, if Atlas, maybe it is a defective turnout? Can't you power the Atlas specifically for DCC?

His analog loco's go through the switch at slow speed without a problem.

It leads me to believe that some settings on the decoders have to be adjusted.

First thanks Bob and others for your input [IMG] after a few more hours of this BS I took my Kato and had another look inside. This time I took the wiper wires/bar and bent it down for more contact with trucks and this WORKED!!!! :D I then did the "Speed Table Thing" CV's 66 thru 95 and like the way things run... Now Bob I am going to mess with CV's 55 thru 57 to see if I can control the down hill speed better any Tips?????

If you want to control downhill speed don't disable BEMF as that will regulate the speed of the loco more evenly and give you much better slow speed. I have about 60 code 55 switches and about 1/3 are wired to power the frog directionally - never a problem. The others are a hit and miss depending on the truck spacing - Atlas GP38 are spaced perfectly to stall on the unpowered frog at slow crawl speed.

Personally, I don't buy any of the Atlas DCC units because they don't come with BEMF.

Sounds like one loco of mine. Typically it just stops, but the lights are on. Only thing to do is to tilt the loco so the decoder "shuts down". When the loco is back on track, it works well until next turnout. I know this loco has very poor power pickup. I can see on the lights that there is a very short power loss. Guess that cause my problem.
This loco is currently on the work bench, very very deep inside a drawer [IMG]

    Mike:

Set CV 57 to 13 for starters.

You can leave the default values for CV 56 and CV 55.

You must set CV 57 to a value first before CV 55 and CV 56 in order for CV 55 & CV 56 to work.

    Mike :

You don't have to change any CV for downhill. CV 57 takes care of uphill and downhill.

Program CV 55 to 150. The default value is 128.

Program CV 56 to either 60 or 75, The default value is 48.

Digitrax has a manual on it's website that explains all the CV's. It's about 100 pages long. I think it'll be a good idea if you download the manual as you'll get a comprehensive explanation of all the CV values used in Digitrax decoders.
