I am from Genoa Illinois and model in HO scale. I like the transition era and am a Chicago Great Western fan. Not much of a poster, mostly I read. Genoa is maybe 30 minutes from the Illinois Railway Museum, so of course I hardly ever get over there.

Hi CGW, Welcome to the TrainBoard. As you can probably tell from my Boston & Maine herald, I don't know anything about railroads in your area. However, 25+/- years ago when ICG and Mid-South Rail were haggling over which assets belonged to whom, I saw a CGW engine in the Gulfport, MS engine terminal.

Back then, IC had decided that the line between Hattiesburg, MS and Gulfport was never going to be profitable, so sold it to Mid-South, who then sold it to KCS. Now IC, actually CN is desperately trying to buy back that branch from KCS when they found out the State of Mississippi is spending nearly $600M to upgrade the State Port at Gulfport to handle some of the expanded Panama Canal traffic. Needless to say, KCS has been very happy to tell CN to "Go Suck Eggs"...LOL

Welcome aboard. Funny how it's often what's close to us that we don't visit that often. Hope you find some assistance and inspiration here, and maybe share some as well.

    Welcome to active participation!

The CGW is a fascinating railroad. I have a few books about that company. Easy to see why anyone would be interested.

I grew up next to the CGW at a little town called Ingalton. Loved watching the extremely long strings of f units pulling trains that seemed to go on forever. The EJ&E interchanged there and Baldwin Center cabs would pick up and drop off cars there. Mom told me not to play near the trains, so of course thats exactly where I went.

    Welcome to Trainboard, CGW121.

I recall when I was about 4 or 5 years old my father admonished me not to ride my tricycle down the street to watch the SP trains. I rode down one day to watch a train and noticed a pair of legs on the other side of the tracks. When the caboose went by I found to my horror it was my father standing over there. I knew what was coming to me and I bawled all the way home to face my punishment.
