Hi, I'm not exactly new to the hobby, but after a long long long time of letting my HO scale collect dust due to life, I'm restarting, been restarting for four years now rather. I just don't have enough room for HO scale so I want to try N scale. I have a pair of 18" x 78" hollow closet doors, if that's not big enough I know where to get something bigger really cheap. I love steam locomotives, grew up around Steamtown back when it was in Vermont. I was thinking of modeling something from the wild west period. Other than googling layout plans and photos of other peoples layouts that about as far as I've gotten.
    thanks.

Hi Vermont, Welcome to the Train Board, we're happy to have you on board....even though you hail from the "other" side of the Connecticut River. :tb-biggrin:

There are many threads in the Layout and N-Scale Forums that discuss Hollow Core Door plans and construction. Also, there's a nice HCD plan in the latest Model Railroader.

Thanks to my wife, I transferred to N-Scale from HO about 25 years ago, and have never looked back.

    Welcome to TrainBoard!

We also have a TrainBoard Group, "HCD Society" about using hollow core doors for layouts. People have indeed used the size you mentioned.

As a Native of the Granite State, let me welcome you! Although I now live in the Garden State, I get up to VT a few times of the year. Not as many model the period you are going for so it will be nice to see what you come up with. Welcome aboard!
