Hi, I'm Becky. I have two boys and they are in love with trains. I joined to learn more about models, scales, and what I should know about helping them start a train collection. :)

Hi Becky, Welcome to the TrainBoard, we're glad to have you on board. We'll be more than happy to help you enrich your boys love of trains, and hope you'll get into that same love along the way. The folks here on TB are into everything train related, each with their own experience and expertice, and all looking forward to helping you.

Welcome aboard, Becky. It's great that you are helping your young railfans to learn about the hobby. It becomes addictive as you will find.

Hi! I'm in So Cal too (Hollywood)! Are they interested in starting a layout? Have you taken them to Travel Town in L.A.'s Griffith Park or Orange Empire Railway Museum in Perris?
There's a World's Greatest Hobby Show in Del Mar the weekend after this weekend, I'd recommend going to that one. Here's the info for that event: http://www.wghshow.com/sdg_info.html

Good morning, Becky. Welcome to you .. and your boys to Trainboard. If you really want an inspiration for your boys, (and maybe yourself) ask at your local hobby shop where you can find a model railroad club.
When I was living in Burbank, the Lockheed Employees Recreation Club had a dandy. Lots of special effects that were created by Walt Disney Studio employees members.

Welcome aboard Becky and company! I'd second the notion of a nearby hobby shop being a great place to start - maybe even make it a group outing and see what captures their interests? And if you can find a show nearby, that's a wonderful way to get inspiration, ideas and contacts. And I have to say there's nothing, in my experience, that gets the kids more motivated for anything than a parent who plays along with them (a lesson I reinforced for myself many times with mine)
