    Hi to all,

I am getting back into the trains after many years of being away. I first got the "fever" with a Tyco system back in the 70's.

Now I am getting my first DCC system for my blank 4 x 8 layout.

Doing a lot of research as to which brand of DCC Diesel engine to go with and the ones stay away from.

Looking forward to this as I will be sharing this adventure with my grandchildren.

    See you down the line,
    Pappy C

Welcome Pappy C! From a Tennessee granddad (new to trains) with grandkids in north Texas.

I have been on five different forums recently looking for good help, and this forum beats the rest by a long shot! I am working on a “kid-friendly” (78” x 160”) layout. For the time being, I am into Bachmann track, locomotives, and DCC (for better and worse).

    Have Fun! Bob

Welcome aboard from a fellow North Texan! I live in Irving so if you need assistance I'd be glad to do what I can. In fact, I'm actually leaving in a little bit to go help a buddy with his new n-scale pike in Mansfield.

Regarding which DCC, don't stress about it too much. Most likely anything you buy will perform at a fairly high level, ESPECIALLY compared to Tyco. :startled: You didn't mention what scale you are in but especially in HO you should be fine no matter what. In N, it's maybe a little trickier but not much. And, you will *always* have options, and if you pick "wrong" then that mistake is only an eBay auction away from being history. (yes, you might lose a dollar or two but that's small penance for a lesson learned, IMHO)

You have a good plan of attack though by coming to Trainboard. We can do what we can to help you get the right stuff avoid picking "wrong".

Welcome aboard, Pappy. The thought of Tyco brings back old memories of the cheap childhood trainset, and trying to play Gomez Adams with the trains. I think the DCC process will be greatly aided here, as there are plenty of folks who can offer pros and cons of the systems they've used.
