Hi, I'm Dale and currently stationed north of Sacramento California. My family and I recently purchased a house in Nevada county and I have a space to design a new train layout for my N scale trains. I have 2 small boys and expecting #3 any day now and we all love trains. My space will be atop built-in cabinets that are 30.5" deep by 11' long each side (L-Shaped). I'm going to build a platform on top of the cabinets so I can access underneath the track for wiring, etc and extend the width to 36." Some special considerations I'm dealing with is a design that incorporates mostly my DCC trains, but also has an outer loop for my DC Kato bullet train. I'd also like to make a small town area to have a trolley loop for a Kato Portatram. The bullet train and tram inclusions are specifically for my boys. I'm not a purist in trying to maintain a specific era or industry, just something fun for me and my young boys. I was brought to the site by a web search that led to me jerryi's new L-shaped layout.
Welcome to our little site. When you stay "stationed," is it safe to say military? It sounds great that your plans are designed around fun and fun with your sons...should make the whole enterprise much more rewarding!
Hi Dale, Welcome. We're happy to have you and your sons on board. I didn't know that Kato made a tram system. I have to look into that for the 82-year old "boy" who looks back at me in the mirror each morning.
Welcome, Dale. There are a lot of us in NorCal, and some very active folks in the Sacramento area. Where in Nevada County did you buy?
Thanks all! Rick I'm at Lake Wildwood in Penn Valley. Hank, take a look here: https://www.katousa.com/N/JSE/LRV.html Steve, I checked out your youtube channel on your BNSF line. Where did you get all the N scale rail box cars? I have a tough time finding those.
Welcome, Dale! When I lived in Sacto, I joined the club located at the Placer Co Fairgrounds. A great bunch of guys there (if you are interested in such a thing). I moved to the far northern end of Cal in '84, but get down to visit my family at least once a month (Citrus Heights). Anyway ... happy to have you aboard!
