Hello, I'm Greg from Newton, Iowa. I'm a long time railroad fan and had a couple of different trains as a kid. I got involved in the model car hobby where I've been most of my adult life. I'm getting reinterested lately so I thought maybe this would be a good place to watch, listen and as questions so that I might educate myself in modern model railroading and figure out what scale I want to get into. I'm looking forward to spending some time here and learning from the experts and hopefully be able to contribute at some point. Thanks for listening.
Hi Greg, Welcome to the TrainBoard, and welcome to the New Year. You might also ask at a local hobby shop (assuming there is one near Newton) if there are any model rail clubs or hobbyists in the area. That would give you a chance to see what others have done physically in addition to chatting and looking at photos here on TB.
Welcome to the board. My husband and I couldn't figure out which scale to get into either, so we got all of 'em
Welcome aboard. We have a lot of threads here which show progress of people's various layouts, often from benchwork through to completion. A good way to eat up free time!
Welcome aboard, Greg. I second Hank's suggestion to check the photos here on the different scale forums. There is some real artistry there and probably some inspiration for you.
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!!! I know that there's a lot to see here and I'm confident that I'll figure out which way to go soon. I'm looking forward to the future!!!
Hey Greg, I created the Saucier Central just by letting my mind and imagination wander. The SCRR probably will be my last after about 70 years of modeling, learning from creations that didn't turn out the way I had hoped. The beauty of building your own model railroad is that it's all yours and nobody else's. So if you don't like what you did, then rip it up and try something else. Let me tell you, I did that often enough, and the latest was this past fall when I ripped op a sawmill and log pond to create The Barn Vacation Cottages. Take a look at the past nine years in the life and times of the Saucier Central Railroad.
