Hello. My wife, 2 yo son, and myself are completely new to the hobby. Interested in HO scale train sets but have no clue where to start, so I figured this would be a good place! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Good morning, Merry Christmas, and welcome to Trainboard, rlynch818. Where to start? It depends how much space you have to dedicate to your new hobby in HO gauge. When you know how much area you can use, I suggest you visit the track plan forum at: http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/forumdisplay.php?183-Layout-Design-Discussion . I would also suggest you, (and your wife) check out the HO forum: http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/forumdisplay.php?169-HO-Scale Start out small and as the late Lynn Wescott used to say it ... "grow" your railroad. By doing so you will save yourself some frusteration. Be ready to make mistakes as we all have done, and still do. But don't be discouraged. And ... don't be afraid to ask questions. There's no such thing as asking a "stupid question" in Trainboard.
Welcome aboard rlynch818. Some sound advice listed above and may I add do some reading around the Forums here prior to buying a Set; you'll probably save yourself some money and add to the fun you'll have that way. And as stated we've all made mistake at first but it's all part of the fun
Welcome to TrainBoard! Feel free to ask questions. Be sure to browse our message archives, as there is a lot of good information stored and available. Above all else, have fun!
Welcome to the board! I'm an LA local if you need any help or advice on the local end I'm here to help.
And another Welcome Aboard and Merry Christmas. If you look through both the HO and Layout Design forums we have, you should find some inspiration and a good deal of discussion and advice on things like picking power packs and locomotives. The one hint there is that trying to save on those items has a nasty habit of ruining the initial experience.
