Greetings All, My name is Bob and I hail from just south of Joliet in IL. Been interested in trains for as long as I can remember, memories of taking my grandparents to board the Super Chief in Joliet in the early 60's and being awakened in the middle of the night by the Wabash's overnighter to St.Louis might have something to do with it. Received my first Lionel set for Christmas in 1966. In 1973, my father and I built a N scale layout which was my first foray into scale modeling. I've been exclusively HO since about 1975, but have really gotten bit by the N scale bug again lately and have started dabbling in it.
Hello Bob .. and welcome to Trainboard. You'll probably get lots of good ideas, and information from the membership as you move along with your project. Maybe, you can post a few photos of your progress. )
Bob- Welcome to TrainBoard! Along with the other scales, there are a good number of HO folks here. And quite a crowd of N scalers. Jump on in and join the fun!
Welcome Bob, Glen here and I model both scales also Small 3.5' x 8' layout in N scale and my HO layout is a Shelf layout that will be evolving for awhile to come. I hope you enjoy your stay here lots of friendly well informed folks here.
Hi Bob, Welcome to the TrainBoard. I think you'll be amazed at the quality of N-Scale products today. I switched from Lionel to HO in 1947, then from HO to N in the early 80's. Today's N is far superior to any of the HO I sold 30 years ago. Of course it helps to have a magnifying workbench lamp...LOL
Thanks for the welcome. I've sort of kept an eye on N scale over the years , but yes I'm impressed with the newer stuff, especially the freight cars. Some real nice ones out there and it's good to see the manufacturers are finally starting to get away from truck mounted couplers. I'm a detailer and the one disappointment is the decline of locomotive detail parts, especially from the likes of Sunrise and JNJ. Hopefully someone will pick up the slack. Bob
If you haven't already, take a look at the offerings from Craig at BLMA. Some really good stuff for loco detailing!
