Hello, I have had a n scale layout in storage in the attic for some 30 years. Finnally got the son-in-laws to move it done to the basement. I have been working on cleaning the track and making sure I have power all the way around the layout. Most parts are good but some will need work. Switches are "some work some don't" and will need work or replacement. 30+ year old engines may need replacement or a good cleaning. One new kato engine works will on parts of the layout that have good power. The layout is from the Altas Nine Scale model railroads book I found when I started the layout titled "Scenic and Relaxed" Looking forward to viewing this site.

    Thanks for your time

Welcome aboard, Ken. That sounds like a challenge getting everything to work again, but it's not exactly like starting from scratch. I hope you will keep us up to date with your progress, and share pictures as it "goes forward." Sorry, had to use the latest buzzwords.

    Welcome to TrainBoard!

That layout plan is well known and quite solidly designed. Let us know how the reactivation progresses.

Decades worth of spring cleaning? Sounds like fun. Fingers crossed that the old locos make a solid comeback, and welcome aboard.

Hi Ken, welcome to the TrainBoard, glad to have you onboard. Don't give up on the "some don't" switches until you've given them some TLC. Many switches route current through the stock rail/point rail contact which collects dirt after a while. I use a small piece of very fine emery paper (600-1200 grit) folded over to drag (clean) between the inside of the point and stock rails while pressing the point rail lightly against the stock rail as the emery is dragged between them.

BTW, what is "harry's town"? I must have led a sheltered life, but I've never heard that name.
