Hello, as indicated in the title, I lived in BelgiumMy English being very limited, I use an on-line translator, thank you for apologizing so certain sentences or words are incorrect. I practise the toy train in the scale(ladder) N since a few years and I was mainly interested in the German trains ( Deutsche BundesBahn). A few months ago, I decided to unsettle my former network which did not satisfy me totally and to begin again everything. My wife having insisted so that I keep(preserve) the German chalets of mountains, it was necessary to find a solution to associate a German decoration of low mountain range (as in Bavaria for example) with the use of American trains. I had the idea to realize a Germanic decoration(set) in which is installed(settled) a leisure park for tourists whose theme is Wild West and the American Trains. I am not going to enter here the detail, but this concept allows me to make circulate German trains on a ceremonial line in the level 0, and to install at the level 1 a route allowing to make circulate American trains and to make décourvrir to the "tourists" a Western village with its station, an park to bison, an Indian camp. This park of leisure will also include a part(party) reserved for the technical teams including compatible US buildings(ships) with the 50s and 60. The big problem in this project is the difficulty finding constructions western and US figurines of the 19th century N. That is why I decided to build a majority of paper buildings (a material which suits well for the small scales) and to make some figurines myself. In here is an example with bisons scale N realized on base of cows scale TT. They must be again painted, of course. View attachment 43381
Welcome, Francois! Finding scale figures for that era is not the only problem. Finding period-correct locomotives and freight cars is also a challenge. In N scale, though, it doesn't matter that much. You can find unpainted figures online (ebay, etc), and paint them period-correct colors.
Welcome aboard Francois! What you are doing sounds very interesting and we would love to see your layout progress. Also feel free to join our European Prototype Group in the Trainboard Groups section. It just started and is looking for people to post.
Welcome to Trainboard Francois! Belgium brings back some good memories - I got to spend a bit over a month in Antwerp just prior to Desert Storm and loved it, especially the fine little cafes. Those bison are wonderful, especially considering the small size. If you'd like to keep with the mountain theme, I'd suggest researching either the Colorado Rockies (lots of roads to model including Denver & Rio Grande and Rio Grande Southern) or the California Sierras (Southern Pacific)
Welcome to Trainboard. My English is also limited and I have been in New York for 65 years. "The big problem in this project is the difficulty finding constructions western and US figurines of the 19th century N." It is a big problem. The next question is what are you going to do to get 36 foot boxcars and other items of rolling stock for your railroad. The only one I have seen are from Athearn. You may need to keep more of the German flavor since I believe there are more trains available for that period in history.
As regards figurines, I am going to use figurines Preiser for the tourists and the character " WarGame " of Pendraken (by modifying them if need be) " for the actors of the show (cowboy - Indian) Examples: The base of the driving material will be constituted by locomotives 4-4-0 Bachmann in various liveries of which the UP119 and Jupite and also loco Althearn. (Some diesel more recent will be also present for the funny) I was able to find some freight cars of 36 (inches) on a French forum and a produced bachman of the cars old timer
Welcome to Trainboard. I am looking forward to seeing what you can come up with for that era. I myself have tried it a little.
