Greetings to all here. I'm glad to have found this site and look forward to "meeting" many of you through it..! I'm quite new to the "train world", in general, and have almost no experience with modeling it... hboy: However... Not being one to let a little thing like that get in my way, I have begun to dive head-first into learning about the railroad of my childhood, which was the Chicago Great Western (CNW by the time I was born, however. :/ ) I am from a small central Iowa town which was along the old CGW Oelwein - KC line and grew up watching yellow diesels (and a few red) come thundering past my grandmother's back yard. She and I used to stand out there and wave to the engineers and men in the cabooses as they rolled by. Now that the trains, the track, and even the depot are only a memory, my heart is moved with longing for "what once was". Sadly, the best I can do is try to remember and (hopefully) attempt to try and recreate it as best I can in in model form one day. In the mean time, I also enjoy collecting CGW "railroadiana" items. I am also always interested to visit with and learn from other people with a similar interest. Hope to meet many of you soon! -CGW_Fan
Hi and Welcome aboard. Being a Boston & Maine Yankee, I don't know anything about the CGW, but I'm sure there are many CGW folks who'll be happy to help you.
Welcome to TrainBoard! I'd sure be happy to see chat about the CGW! Off and on I have owned pieces of their equipment in N scale. MILW, NP, M&St.L, CGW are my favorite railroads. You might find this page interesting: http://www.train-orders.com/TOUR/CGWRY/CGWRY.html
Always a treat to have a fresh start. I sometimes have to wonder about the choices some of us make in favorite roads - like mine, which disappeared back when I was in high school.
