Hello, I'll introduce myself to this amazing forum. My Name is Thomas, I live in Cleveland, Ohio. I have been interested in locomotives for many years now. I have seen Norfolk Southern and CSX trains over the years of my interest, since the NS Chicago Line and the New Castle Sub run through my area. My main goal is to learn more about trains and make lots more friends. I have some model trains, but I only pull them out during the Christmas season. Well, I guess I my as well start reading the posts around here. I hope to have a fun and happy time on this forum! I have a YouTube, but I'll put it in my Link on my profile just to make things a bit more organized. I also have a Skype, so you can ask me to add. Cheers, Thomas
Welcome to TrainBoard! Is the "New Castle Sub" you've mentioned a former part of the old NYC/Big Four? There was a CCC&St. L station named New Castle. Might be too far away though, as that was Indiana.
Why Thank You! I don't really know that, as it is beyond my knowledge, but I think not, the line only goes through Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Ah, OK. Maybe I should dig out a book or two and see what can be found. My curiosity is bugging me now.
Thomas, Welcome to Trainboard. I hope you enjoy this hobby as much as I do. I am a railfan and do no modeling, but try to catch any and all steam operations within my range of driving. It definitely becomes addictive!
Hi Thomas, happy to have you on board. Looking forward to your photos and YouTube link. Consider building a small layout which would give you a reason to have your trains out of a box the other 364 days of the year...LOL
Thank You everyone! Well, It is a Christmas train, and I forgot the scale, since it has been so long since Christmas, LOL. I will probably post it on the model train sub-forum later in the year.
Ken, Thomas said he lives in Cleveland (Ohio), so the "New Castle Sub" could be either ex-New York Central or ex-Pennsylvania. NYC ran through the city, and PRR south of the city, IIRC. Of course it may be ex-Erie, Nickel Plate, B&O, or C&O, though I don't know anything about these last.
Hank- I looked in the wrong direction yesterday. Oops. Believe I have found it- New Castle, Pennsylvania. But what predecessor RR? Grabbing an old Official Guide offers B&O, Erie and Pennsylvania RR. I'm not certain who got what in that area, after the Conrail split.
Ken, don't know if this map will help because it doesn't define the Conrail predecessor roads. It just shows how Conrail was split between CSX & NS, which generally follow the original (pre-Conrail) NYC and PRR routes, with the "also-rans" assigned where they best fit according to STB's logic...I think? http://broadway.pennsyrr.com/Rail/Conrail/Breakup/main_lg.gif
