IMHO if I ask a question in the n scale section...I would prefer it be answered in the n scale section. I dont peruse the other forums...I'm an n scaler !! If I ask a DCC question in the n scale section...I would rather another n scaler answer it. If a HOer happens to have the same question...he can ask and receive a reply in the HO Forum by other HOers. Not every post or question or answer crosses every scale. Case in point: My question on getting track laid straight. Although it may apply to other scales..in n scale the process may be different. Using a yard stick in n scale may not be the prefered method in a larger or smaller scale. Right now the question is still on the nscale forum...being shown as 'moved'. Once more posts are added to n scale...that post will be on page 2. Gone...forgotton in n scale. I dont have The Inspection Pit bookmarked...so I probably wont know if anyone else replies to it. I have had DCC questions that I asked in the DCC and Electronics section. Lots of times the questions go unanswered in there. Within a few days I started forgetting to go to that forum to check for replies. If it had stayed in n scale and someone posted a reply...it would have stayed an active post and popped back up on the first page ;-) Short reply....I dont think leaving most things posted in a specific scale forum is hurting anything. Like a lot of guys...N scale is my opening page on TrainBoard and bookmarked as such. I know there are other areas of TB...but they generally dont interest me. If I'm bored...I occasionally go see whats being said elsewhere. JMO...thnxs
Easy Peasy, maybe. Completely not what I want, definitely. Why? Because that shows every new post from every forum when all I care about is what the N scalers are up to. It shouldn't be that hard to understand - some of us simply want a single "N Scale Forum" where we can address the N Scale Community (at large) on any train-related topic (be it model, prototype, DCC, electronics, scenery, whatever). This is what we had at Atlas, and what at least some of miss having now. I'll let the "bound up about it" crack slide... for now. Cheers, -Mark
The Atlas site had a minimal breakdown: N, HO, O. That type of format worked as you suggest. TrainBoard is not the same, and has been different from day one. Which was before Atlas came about.
This kinda goes back to my "club" theory..If someone asks something here, and it gets moved, and someone strange to them answers their question, how do they know if it's good advice? If I come here, and the likes of Randy,Pete Nolan,Bob Gilmore,ETC,answers my question,I know I'm getting usable advice..Just because a guy has 10,000 posts,he could still be a boob. Go to another part of the forum,I might as well be asking a guy on a street corner.. As Dave Attell once said,if you want directions, you don't ask a man with one eye,you ask a man with one foot...
LOL, yep. Pretty much the reason I didn't spend much time here until after the Atlas forum went away. Oh well - ya takes what ya's can get. No offense to TB (or any other forum). Cheers, -Mark
I also dislike thread moves and sub-forums for a lot of the same reasons listed above, which recently went to a whole new level on another forum (never noticed this being too much of an issue here though). On the bright side, I'm spending much less time on the computer these days!
Well, I think it has come to time when we need to table this discussion. While Staff can see, and many are reading, we cannot make any ultimate move without the site owner presiding. At present he has a monster work load ongoing, which is just not relenting. Atop that something else, which he has at least alluded to here in the recent past and I am not at liberty to discuss. These are eating up his hours and days. So let's keep him in our best thoughts for now. He has a few ideas, which we've tossed around some, and given time, hopefully.....
