A great big hello to all. My name is Jim. I am new to the hobby. I joined the train board in order to learn. I have many question and hope that all of you are willing help me out. I will try to keep my questions short and to the point. My first question is; do you start a new thread with each question or is the question posted a certain catagory? Thanks for you for your reaponce in advance!! Jim
Hi Jim, Welcome to the TrainBoard, we're happy to have you on board. You didn't say which scale you're thinking of modeling. So until you decide, post your questions on the Inspection Pit which is generic to all scales. On the other hand, if you prefer the "BIG" Stuff, post in the Rail Fanning topics. Personally, I post and read both because I'm wierd. LOL
Jim- Welcome to TrainBoard! You can post multiple questions in one topic, as many as you desire. There are times when asking just one separately works better. That is for you to decide. Scale generic questions, such as wiring, scenery, are best in the Inspection Pit. Scale specific should go in the forum for that particular scale. DCC and electrical stuff in DCC & Electronics. Please note, our "How To" forum is not a Q&A area, but intended for (approved) tutorials and occasional discussions thereafter. If you have any questions on how to post, upload, etc, you can ask for help in our Support Forum. Often many members jump in and help out. Or just grab (PM) any handy Staff member, who can connect you with the right person for help. Do not be afraid to ask questions. Doing so will save you time, money and frustration. But always remember, it is your empire, so just have fun. Fun is what it is all about.
And we're happy you joined us! I'm sure a little poking around will give you an idea of what the different forums have to offer, and I think you'll find lots of advice in response to any questions. And like Ken has said, if you have any doubts, feel free to ask for advice or just post the question and let'er rip!
Welcome, I'm pretty new here myself. I've been on a lot off various forms over the years, and I have to say this is one of the more relaxed about tolerating off topic posts, double posting, etc. without things descending into chaos. I think the "grown ups to kids ratio" is higher than most areas of the internet, thus common sense is more common. It's good to keep netiquette in mind, but I have yet to see anyone get bent out of shape about it, so don't sweat it - as others have said, ask away!
With 29K+ of active registrations, there are simply so many different folks aboard that now and then we do see a bubble of unrest. But we do our best to keep things brief, and otherwise flowing along.
