Does anybody know the approx. number of trains that roll through Hannibal, MO. today? I haven't done any trackside photography in a few years but thought about revisiting this site. It is unique with the swing bridge, the diamonds, and the tunnel. Here are a few shots from May 6, 1990.
Really neat scene: tunnel, road crossing, diamond, and bridge all in close proximity! I like the low nosed GP35 too (ex-N&W); they were orphans on the road full of high nosed units! Harold
Anyone know a source for a RR map of the Hannibal area? I remember seeing an aerial photo. Maybe a couple of years ago. But I couldn't figure it out then. Perhaps something that shows it in CB&Q days? Boxcab E50
Why not try a Terraserver search? Here's a start: http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.aspx?t=1&s=14&x=199&y=1373&z=15&w=1&qs=%7cHannibal%7cMissouri Harold
I have seen pictures of Espee GP20s coming off of a truss bridge and crossing diamonds in a track arrangement just like this one. Does anyone know where that might be located? I would presume it is not here. Very nice pictures. This is a big, eleborate bridge system and it would have been nice to have it in our bridge topic we had a few weeks back. I will look for the Espee pictures.
Hannibal was featured in the Kalmbach book, "Trackside Scenes". I am at work and the book is at home. I will look when I get home to see if it shows a trackplan.
i've seen pics of the tunnel, but the bridge is what I'm questioning...... seems like NS was able to keep trains running over the mighty mississip' during the "100 year flood circa 1994 (?)" maybe NS diverted traffic to merchants' bridge in st. lou' I recall vividly crossing over into st. louis that summer... so strange to see water that close to the base of the arch!
