I am lookign to upgrade my power system as my new layout continues to expand. I am not going into DCC, however I want to have the handheld throttle. Now MRC has a rather large DC system with a hand held throttle called the Big Power series ControlMaster 20. Would this be a good choice for a relatively large switching layout? "Big Power" series ControlMaster 20
If you are going to spend $200 you might as well go DCC. I don't have the info with me but I found what looks like a good 3 amp memory throttle for $125. It's the one I am looking at for my layout if I don't build it myself.
If you can get hold of a copy of the December 1986 issue of Model Railroader, there is an article in there on building a DC handheld transistor throttle for around $20 worth of Radio Shack parts.
I have had the Control Master 20 for 7 years and am very pleased. I added an Aristocraft remote about a year ago and like it as well. Jeff
I have a couple of the Aristo-Craft wireless throttles. I love them!! You can walk away from the layout and still be in control. You don't need all the bells and whistles on the power pack. The wireless throttles have all the settings you need.
Here's the link for the memory throttle I mentioned earlier in this thread GML Enterprises If you want to build one try here Armadillo & Western Click the DC trottles button on the left. I found the first on listed had some cool features Good luck [ April 12, 2006, 08:39 AM: Message edited by: MOPMAN ]
I use the Innovator DC throttle system and I'm very pleased with it. Here is a link http://www.trolleyville.com/innovatorline/products.shtml There should be more detailed information on the Alpine Scale Models website http://www.alpinemodels.com but I was getting a dns error when I tried to load it.
