Hello! I’m Christian from Magdeburg, Germany. Some time ago (when I was a student), I have built a frame construction for a H0 scale model railroad theme located in Thuringia, Germany in era IIIb (1960’s). However, due to the lack of time and money, I put this project on ice and stored the two modules in the basement. They still rest there without any track mounted so far. Recently, I searched the web for practical applications of Arduinos. This way I came across this forum where I learned about the DCC++ project and got heavily infected with the idea of a homemade DCC system. Of course I have built a DCC++ base station and bought my first DCC loco plus about one meter of track to make my first steps. I’m happy to be here and I like to thank Gregg, Dave and all the DCC++ community for giving me that great new impulse to continue my model railroading project. There are so many things to do for me in this (sub)project like building a booster and hardware controllers. Currently, I’m working on the DCC++ code to add another Arduino target platform to the sketch. If that’s of interest, l could report on this little project in a separate thread in the DCC section. Oh, please excuse my English that may be a bit rusty. Christian
Hi, Quax! Welcome! And, please, don't ask us to excuse the English. Most of us are Americans. We washed our hands of them 240 years ago. We don't care if they're rusty or bloody or jolly well barmy.
Good morning, (it is so here!) Christian. Welcome to Trainboard. I guess I'm going to have to visit the DCC forum some day soon. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer so I'm not sure I'd understand what the discussion(s) are all about. But my biggest fear is I may be bitten by the same bug you have taken on! Again, welcome aboard.
Welcome aboard, Christian! Guten tag! (If you'll excuse my terrible Deutsche) I spent 5 years in Germany, and loved it there. I even traveled to Thuringen, where I discovered a favorite beer, Kostrizer. We traveled all over the country via train whether S-bahn, or ICE.
Thanks to all for the warm welcome! @Ironhorseman: Yes, I've been bitten by that bug but it feels good. I just let it happen. @HemiAdda2d: Glad to hear that you had a good time in Germany (and like the beer ). I don't live in Thuringia but I have chosen this region for my model railroad because my favorite steam engines (BR94 "Rennsteighirsch" and BR95 "Bergkönigin“) were used on the inclines of the Thuringian forest. I have visited the US once and I liked it very much. Unfortunately, there was no opportunity to travel by train but there will be a next time, definitely. Christian
