There has been significant traffic increase on the Gulfport, MS Branch over the past month or so. Prior to the Class 4 track upgrade there was only one train a day, one northbound three days a week, and one southbound on the alternating days. Now there are at least two trains each day, including Saturdays, and occasionally one on Sunday. I wonder if the upgrade project nearing completion has allowed KCS Marketing greater success in expanding existing customers, and/or attracting new customers. Does anyone have information on this increased traffic? I haven't seen any trains since I've been aware of the traffic increase. Unfortunately with the higher track speeds, by the time I hear the horns it's too late to hop in the car and drive to the nearest crossing.
