HI.i am new to this board, and wanted to check it out.I think its great to have a scale specific area! I will take my time looking through the rest of the site, but i like what i see!My first request for help is this.Does anyone have any pictures of the frontend of a model SD 40-2 or SD 60 with a m.u. hose installed? The one that goes just under the pilot, not the 6 hoses that hang from behind the plow area.I need the proper orientation.(the ones i have installed don't look right to me.)thanks for any help.DB

Sorry I do not have the answer to that one but I am sure someone on here does. I just wanted to say welcome aboard. I love this site and has been a great source of knowledge and fun.

    Welcome to Train Board

The M.U. connection is not a "hose" but a heavy duty electrical cable

There is a photo of the rear of a SP GP60
    at this URL
    http://espee.railfan.net/picindex/gp60-walkaround/thcsp9614h.html

And the front of a SP SD40M-2 (not well lit) here:
    http://espee.railfan.net/picindex/sd40m-2_walkaround/SP_SD40M-2_8700b.html

and a somewhat better shot here:
    http://espee.railfan.net/picindex/sd40m-2_walkaround/SP_SD40M-2_8700a.html

and a Santa Fe GP60M here
    http://www.railfan.net/railpix/ABPR/november00/11-09-00/atsf109.jpg

Some diesels have the M.U. receptacle above the end sill; others have it below the end sill. When not in use (as on the lead unit in a consist), the M.U. cable is either not in view (nothing to connect to) or only one cable is visible, and it temporarily runs from one receptacle to the other. In actual operation, I believe there are two cables used between locomotives (R side to R side and L side to L side).

    Hope this helps.

    DB

    Dangerboy,
Welcome to trainboard, it is always great to see new members here. I hope you find trainboard a wealth of information and make this site your home.
Tell us about your modelling? I gather you are into N scale. Just to let you know any general modelling questions may also be posted to "The Inspection Pit"

Hope you find the information you are looking for and once again welcome to the Trainboard family

    Hey DB,
The pic in that topic Alan referred you to on top is a GE, prolly a Dash-9 44CW, but the pic on bottom, is a SD70MAC, I posted that one. I dunno if there is any difference, but I hope that helps!
It practically posed for me... So cool, but then it backed 125 coal hoppers into the siding. :D
