Hello Everyone! I am returning to the world's GREATEST hobby after a VERY long time off. It is amazing to see all of the new developments in the hobby. It has come along way since my old Lionel HO 4x8 with a chicken wire and paper mache mountain with tunnel in 1974 that my dad and I built. I have been struggling deciding between HO and N scale. I know with N I can have a LOT more of a layout even on a 4x8 sheet. I can even add a 9" extension to the long side making it 105" and a 38" extension to the 48" side making it 86" and 48" long. That is a big L in N scale. I may be biting off more than I can chew with the extensions. I set up a few N SCALE ideas in SCARM, and found out I like to switch stuff as well. I want a good amount of scenery, switching is a must, continuous run on at least 1 line is a must. I will place the layout on wheels for easy servicing. I am 6'5" so reaching the center with my ape like paws is not a problem LOL. SCARM is a pain for elevations and scenery so ignore that part of it. This is really just to layout and test the track configuration, a task MUCH harder than I initially thought. I have attached 2 ideas and WELCOME any advice. Rob
Hi Rob, welcome. Glad to have you aboard. I like the "L" better because it has more visual interest. Though it would be more complicated for a beginner whose last experience was Lionel HO 50 years ago. Whichever....just enjoy having fun with your new/old hobby.
