    But it is a low hood. I thought SP bought all the low hood GP9s? GP20? No, air tanks behind the fuel tank.

    This is indeed a rebuild. If memory servers, a few were done at Paducah and looked just like the IC GP8 and GP10 rebuilds but the majority were rebuilt in the (at the time) Family Lines shops in Waycross GA and look like the one in your photo.

    Yes, it is one of hundreds of GP16's... SBD (CSX) contracted with Paducah with to rebuild the first few, then they decided to do them themselves at the Uceta shops in Tampa.

    Originally numbered in the 4600-48xx range during Seaboard System (when they were constructed) they were renumbered in the CSX era to 1600-18xx
