The GP60 and GP60B were acquired by Santa Fe to run fast intermodal trains, I believe. Anyone know if with all the new power now running, are these units still in front line use, particularly the unique B units? TIA.
I've seen recent pics of GP60M's working MOW trains, quite a comedown from the transcontinental piggyback services they were built for I'm guessing the GP60B's will just be in the regular freight pool by now.
Was just out this last week on the Needles Sub and saw three GP60Ms with brand new Heritage 2 paint and also caught 2 GP60Bs in Heritage 1 paint. I believe these will be around for some time. By the way, they look spectacular in the new paint!!
I see them here in galesburg all the time mostly on mixed frieghts but I have saw a few of themn on intermodal trains. I am like John though they look great in the new paint schemes.
Good to know they still in use. I will look forward to seeing some in the new paint schemes when I next come over
I see them out here on the west coast once in a while. I caught a Warpumpkin GP60M a couple of weeks ago in Seattle. They are semi-regular visitors to both the ex-SP&S river line and the ex-GN Stevens Pass lines.
Yep, I see 60Ms and 60Bs every once in a while coming through Vancouver Wa on the former SP&S still in Warbonnet usually. Usually on Grain or Intermodal.
Good to know they are still in regular use, as they are unique. Don't think engineers like them on the point though, as it seems they ride a bit rough!
I'm not 100% sure but I think all the GP60M's and B's are still in service unless one has been destroyed in a wreck. Saw a GP60B a few months ago in Birmingham Alabama. It was on a mixed freight. It was still in red and silver. However, they are getting Heritage paint as they come up for repainting.
Three GP60M's have been wrecked and scrapped. They are the 144, wrecked 12/14/94 on Cajon Pass. The 148 and 152 were wrecked at the West Switch of the Corona (CA) Siding. on 11/07/90. All 23 GP60B's are intact as a fleet though. San Gabriel DS out
