Please check-out pic at http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?f=3&i=28748&t=28748 and help me chose the road I should put this in Brakewheel style limits it to a SSW, DRGW or maybe a UP repaint. (sorry, i have no current image hosting site that works! ) Russ
I don't have an answer for you but my bias would be to paint it in anything OTHER than UP - but that's just me. This brings up an interesting question - I have never worked this way - starting with a model and then finding a protoype for it. Generally, I have a prototype in mind when I buy a model. Sometimes I change my mind as research goes along but I wonder, how many people model this way?
Russ DRGW only had 3 (they were tacked on to a SSW order) 3154-3156 Here is 3154 and 3155 and here is 3156 There are a ton of SSW GP60 pics here http://espee.railfan.net/sswgp60.html eNjoy [ 23 January 2002: Message edited by: dbn160 ]
Rob, This way is unusual for me to do a model. I was planning for a SSW unit at first, but then I ran across some DRGW photos (like Don's) and seriously considered doing one of those (they look great, huh?). But then I model current times, so maybe a UP repaint is best! I just love the look of these units, whatever the road. I have another shell that I might make into a GP60M or B....not sure yet. Thanks for the pics, Don
You might try a Modern looking unit in Bloody Nose colors, like it has been bought out but not completely repainted yet....just an idea, although I don't know too many people that find these unit to look too nice for modeling purposes. That rough look is a little hard to reproduce.
Definately SP Speed Lettered! Has anybody else seen these shells or know anything of the manufacturer? Where or from whom can we get some? I'm surprised we haven't heard of these shells sooner...I know we're all dying for some N GP60's, especially with the boxy dynamics! That shell doesn't look too bad at all.
russ you could also do a Norfolk Southern unit in the 4600 series such as the operation lifesaver unit and run it as a lease unit or borrowed to repay hours to the bnsf.
James, I've never seen or heard about these before either...but then they suddenly appeared on eBay one day. The guy I bought them off picked them up at a show and has no clue as to their origin...sorry! Yes, I like the speed letter SP units too ! I would have to change to a recessed brakewheel to be accurate for that model. If I was going to change that area anyway, I could even to an ATSF unit! Mopac, Yes, that's right! I forgot about the NS units...thanks! Benny, An aging SSW unit is where I'm leaning...maybe DRGW. These would require no nose modifiactions. Russ
