I've got a couple more GP60's (standard cab) in the works. One is most likely going to be an SSW (Cotton Belt) unit, but I can't decide on the other. I was going to make it a "speed lettered", 9700 class SP unit, but those winged and lightning striped UP GP60's are pretty nice too! The SP GP60's are one of my all-time favorites, but I model in a modern era. The SP units are growing old and are increasingly rare, the UP's are new repaints. Please vote on how you would chose to paint this loco! Thanks! Russ [ 13. March 2003, 22:28: Message edited by: tehachapifan ]
I live in Cheyenne, WY. home of UP 844, and 3985 steam locos, and seeing the deluge of Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Gray gets old! SP all the way!
SP. There's too much Borg out there already, plus you can weather the h**l out of it, and it will look just right. Interesting note: the poll was almost 3 to 1 SP when I voted. Is this primarily pro-SP or anti-UP?
Yeah, you guys are right! What was I thinking anyway? Had a moment of weakness, I guess. The UP has a way of coming in for the kill at any sign of weakness! But rest assured, the scarlet & grey is coming through clearly now!! Thanks for the input and votes! Russ [ 15. March 2003, 03:55: Message edited by: tehachapifan ]
I'm not an anti-Borg person either, but to me a UP SD60 is like a UP tunnel motor- out of place. I vote for Espee as well. Keep the UP colors to the horde of SD40-2s, SD60s, C30-7s and SD9043s.
As a UP modeller I have been slowly adding more fallen flags like SP, Mopac and Rio Grande to the roster basically for the same reason. There is just too much of the armour yellow running round so it's great to see SP etc on the layout.
Another Sign That the Apocalypse Is Upon Us (with apologies to Sports Illustrated magazine): Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Gray-painted locomotives have been mysteeriously appearing pulling freight and passenger trains on all railroads across Australia and New Zealand.
Definitely SP. They were the original and there's quite a few variations you can do. I have 2 myself 9788 (white number boards) and 9756, both are speed lettered. In addition, the early version SSW #9630. You can see them on my website along with my other N Scale engines: http://www.shastarails.com/models/engines.asp
Definitely SP. I have nothing against UP, but as had been said, there are plenty of them around, and anyway, we all hanker after stuff that is gone
Well lemme say SOUTHERN PACIFIC!!!!!. I live on a UP line here in texas, and does it ever get boring. But, also, if you live in my pretend world, SOO LINE never went by the way side, so I say paint them in SOO with the slant logo.....lol. As I think about it more, I think the enginneers blow the horn wayyyyyyyyyyy too much, lol. Lately we have had free lance going on, it seems the hoggers are doing what ever they feel like when it comes to horn. Adios from texas, dreaded up country.
Aw, com'on Russ, you couldn't seriously be considering to do a UP unit. I imagine these are the JNJ shells?
