I scanned and uploaded about another dozen older GP38 pictures tonight to the North Carolina Railfan site, including this one:

To see the rest, drop by the site at: http://www.trainweb.org/ncrail
click on the CSX on the left hand side and it will take you to the pictures. Most are in the 60-90k range.

Besides the GP38's, I added a couple of GP38-2's, a slug, some C44's and C60's. I also addred some more Lease Units and NS units to their respective pages.

very cool cheesie , a GP38 with Dynamic Brake , the GP38's we have used on the Grand Trunk did not have DB , are those units 3000HP?

Nope, all the 38s are 2000 HP. You don't get to 3000 until the 40 series.

Thats what I thought Harron . Actually I have never seen a GP38 with DB . I take it that unit you have photographed also does not have a turbo charger .

    Dave,
That's correct... no turbocharger, just two small stacks (one on each side of the DB fan). GP39's did have a turbo and produced only 2300 HP... most roads figured it was not worth the headache for the extra 300 ponies.

All of the GP38's that I have pics of do have dynamic brakes (pretty much standard for all of the pre-CSX merger roads due to hilly terrain, except RF&P). I have some more photos to scan and they show some GP38's with much longer dynamic brake blisters as well.

From what I remember, all of the CSX GP38-2's had DB's as well, except for a few units picked up from the short line, Durham and Southern.
