Hey guy's Need a little painting help.just bought an GP40-2 from by Atlas in N scale.I've found that IC orange from Badger is a good match. My question is has anyone found a good match for the green??? I'm also going to paint a WP GP20 (2010). Thanks....
Steve, I found CNW green to be a good match for the GP40-2's and late new image green. Also I have been told the hunter green is good and the New Haven dark green is close. I like your orange choice. I will have to remember that when I paint my GP40. Greg Elems
Sounds neat. What method did you use for the high hood on the GP20? For the orange I have used Scalecoat II SP Daylight - It's a richer shade than Floquil's version. Looks good on F-units! I'll look for the Model-Flex IC Orange next time I am doing a WP unit. Oh, if the GP20 is going to be in silver/orange (as it should be ) don't forget to paint the cab roof black! Remember photos, Steve. Gary.
Thanks guys, but this GP40-2 is the painted version from Atlas.I'm just trying to match the green paint. The Badger IC orange matches perfectly.I just hoped that somebody else had matched the green....I'll try some of your suggestions and let you know....
GATS.....I was doing two Rock Island chopped nosed units for a friend.I used the short hoods off Life Likes GP20.So I spliced the high hoods on to the Life Like shell and I ended up with two high hooded GP20s. Guess I'll do one in WP and the other in GN big sky blue....If I can figure how to put the pictures on this page I'll do thst as soon as I get the GP40 and GP20 done.....BTW looks like Badger pullman green will match the Atlas paint....
Hello, I bought a couple of bottles of Accuflex WP orange a while back, is it unavailable now? Is there no hope that it will be re-issued? And, is there any possibility of seeing a picture of the WP GP20?? I am making one from a Tyco GP20 shell and an Athearn SD9 short hood. I was thinking of doing another from an AHM GP18 shell and a turbocharger bulge from a Tyco shell. Neither seems as good as the Proto 2000.
Hi Russell and welcome to TrainBoard. When preparing to do my WP GP20 kitbashes, I found a few photos of them on the web. Have a look at the following; http://cencalrails.railfan.net/westpac.html http://www.wplives.com/wp/diesel/Hood_Unit/GP-20/gp-20.html and a couple of modelling articles; in HO - http://www.worldrailfans.org/USA/WP/Modelling/GP20/Proto2000-HiNoseGP20.htm in N - http://www.pnc.com.au/~audiosat/models/projects/wpgp20.htm Hope this helps. Gary.
Russell, Here is another link to a site with WP pictures. www.dnaco.net/~gelwood/other/wp.html This one I took in Stockton before the UP took over. Also, the WP 2001 is back at Portola and looks good. Greg Elems [ 18 March 2002, 16:31: Message edited by: Greg Elems ]
