Well since the Raton Subdivision is down to 2-3 empty grainies (all at night) a week and 1-2 baretable unit trains a week, I was requesting for you'll to send some pics my way. I need to keep up and it's hard when the trains thru here are few and far between. SEND ME YOUR BEST, FAVORITE PICTURES.
I have no pics from Raton--I look forward to some! I thought campp had a couple of Amtrak near Raton Summit.... Oh, Steeeeeve!!! If you want BNSF pics from other parts of the system, I can happily oblige...
None from your area. I tried to catch some BNSF up here last week. Perfect weather. But nothing was moving! Nada. Zip Zilch. Must have been an m-o-w window somewhere. Boxcab E50
Mr, SP, that is one cool EMD switcher shot. Don't know about Sammy, but I wouldn't mind seeing BNSF pics from anywhere.
Mr. SP, I see that BNSF 3547 switcher nearly every work day as it is on my usual commute path. They have that one switching the yard and occasionally industries almost all the time. They also run the 3611 (in BN green) quite a bit. Those seem to be their favorite two switchers. Adam
That's exactly why I call it maintenance-in-the-way..... As for other pics from BNSF routes.... I'll give you a quick scenic tour... Marias Pass Only 3 engine lengths separate these 2 snowsheds, just west of Marias Pass summit: Snowcapped mountains are a wonderful backdrop for this fast EB stack train, barreling past Meriwether, MT: Does trackage rights count? BNSF has trackage rights from Denver to Stockton, on UP's the Moffat Tunnel Sub. Here's a BNSF M-DENSTO threading South Boulder Canyon, at Tunnel 27: Wind River Canyon is a beautiful, if tough place to catch a train, thaks to very low train frequency. Ha ha! Mooned you!
Doesn't the Southwest Chief still go Raton? Sammy, here's Hemi's shot: I have BNSF shots in my RI album.
Marias is fantastically beautiful, and for the most part, easy to railfan. Tunnel 4.0: Stacks drift downgrade at Shed 10.7: The 1.8% EB ruling grade on the pass begins near Java East, MT. Here's an EB empty about to attack the grade, at Java Creek Trestle: Grain loads meet empties at Bison siding:
Yeah, I guess that's what was available that day. Shot from a rear coach. Hemi, that Meriwether photo is spectacular! Here's an Arizona-style BNSF shot, at Walnut Canyon last spring:
Great shot, Steve! That grain train is working HARD.... Thanks for the kind words; The Meriwether shot was very nice to my eye--the light was just right, but I wish she had matched power!
EB manifest on the Transcon, about a mile east of Gallup, NM. That's the I-40 bridge way in the background. EB stack train rounding the curve to head east on the former SP&S main, Vancouver, WA NB rock empty with ex-Santa Fes on the point, Sherman, TX, on the ex-Frisco
Bare-table train east of yard, Amarillo, TX, mid-April last year. Four Dash-9s charging over Continental Divide, NM moving a hot pig train eastbound. SUmmit is 1/2 mile west of this location. Empty coalie on the FW&D in the Texas panhandle
THANKS A MILLION FOR ALL THE PICS. I WANTED BNSF FROM WHERE EVER AND EVERYWHERE NOT JUST UP IN RATON PASS. KEEP 'EM COMING THEY'RE AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here are a few of mine. New GEVO's heading west at Ashland. Shot in the spring. Westbound hopper coming off the Sioux city sub. Eastbound coal load rolling through Oreapolis.
