Show us your Juice Jacks! I want to see heavy electric locomotives, mainly, but Shinkansens, MP54's, SBB Krokodils, Hiroshima trams or bi-polars, anything that needs catenary or trolley wire in the real world is OK with me; show 'em if you got 'em. I realize some of us may have "motors" but our lines are not up to NCat standards. For this thread, that's OK with me. If you got working catenary, extra Kudos to you! Show it off! But don't withhold your trolleys or trams because the wire's not up. That's not what this is about. Flatbottoms, Jets, Washboards, Yellow Jackets, anyone? Little Joes, Bricks, Owl Eyes, Steeple Cabs? Let's see 'em! GG1s, FF2's, DD-1s, E44s, FL9's, who's got 'em? Milwaukee, NYC, PC, Conrail, Amtrak, New Haven, Pennsy, and the Chicago, South Shore and South Bend? SAR, OBB, SCNF, JNR, whatcha got? Yes, ICE counts, TGV counts, I'll even accept Acela. A model of anything where the prototype takes electric power from a wire overhead, or a 3rd rail, counts. Thanks for your post!
Well, this isn't everything, but close: Missing are a my silver TGV, another tram and a couple S-Bahns... Threw in the Hiroshima for good measure. -Mike
I have 4 pieces of equipment on my roster that probably qualify. This one is my favorite of that small group: This is a Kato JNR EF-15 ordered through TexNRails back when they had a custom painting service. Man, I though I had obtained the "holy grail" of GN motive power when this baby arrived. Unlike those pullman green JNR EF-57's Con-Cor sold, this is a custom paint job made to order, in the Empire Builder colors. Although the axle spacing of the trucks is incorrect for the ALCO-GE built Y-1, at least it is a proper 1-C+C-1 (2-6-6-2) not a 2-C+C-2 (4-6-6-4) like the more common dark green CC-Sekisui heavy electric you find at shows or on eBay. There were 8 of these 3,000 hp units. One was wrecked and got "streamlined" FT cabs in 1945 in place of the crunched ends of the boxcab carbody. Lionel would use that anomaly to justify splashing GN EB paint on their New Haven EP-5 Rectifier (complete with Blomberg Geep trucks. ) #5112-#5117 were sold to the Pennsy in 1956, where they became FF-2's #2 - #7. The "streamlined" Y-1a went with them as a source of parts. (Lionel did the EP5 in tuscan with a single stripe in response to that, I guess? ) Have the Historians in the crowd noticed the custom painter's error yet? (I'd be ashamed to tell you how many years I owned this locomotive before I knew any better. ) [ April 23, 2005, 01:55 AM: Message edited by: LongTrain ]
No silver stripe at the side sill? The area under the sill should be pullman green?? Just guessing...
No silver stripe at the side sill? The area under the sill should be pullman green?? Just guessing... </font>[/QUOTE]Hemi, you could be right on both counts. I've always been a little confused about the different shades of green, orange and yellow/gold used in the EB scheme over the years. Stripe colors, too. But there is at least one mistake even more fundamental than color shades or stripes. There is a "hint" hidden in plain view, within the text of my post.
Hey Gregg, that Sekisui combine makes one righteous-looking interurban! That coach looks to well-detailed to be based on the Bachmann car - is that one of the "Father Nature" resin castings? Here's your chance to take your layout back to its roots, and post the equipment you ran on it originally! I hope you have more of them still around to post. Anyway, Tripple Extra Kudos to you for having catenary up! I liked the cars so well, that impressive little detail almost got past me! Bob [ April 23, 2005, 06:25 PM: Message edited by: LongTrain ]
Bob (LongTrain), yes that is a Father Nature shell, evidently the master as all the roof parts were individual. It now rides on a Green Max power unit, which does not like a five percent grade! Alas, those are the only two cars I have. One electric was converted to a gas-electric and another to my New York Central "critter" Speaking of "critters" I've evidently caught a "bug" as I started feeling strange after lunch and my temperature is 101.4. Oh well, attended a big "business expo" for SCORE on Tuesday with a couple of thousand others. Perfect place to "catch" something.
When somebody makes an affordable Milwaukee Road Box Cab set, I'll have some pictures of motors under wire. I have made up a few trolley poles. But have nothing to use underneath catenary. Boxcab E50
Longtrain. The "Great Northern" is not in the center of the "dark", (I can't tell what color it is), stripe? Is that the issue? Well, that is where _I_ would put it.
I am glad I checked this topic.... I was expecting to see a picture of the Tropicana juice train! Harold
Well, I'll profess to know nothing about GN history - but I'll take a guess. If there were 8 of them, and #'s 5112-5117 went to the PRR, that would mean the lowest # would be 5110 if they were sequentially numbered. . . and your's is # 5003?
Doh! Wrong number!!! 5013 would be correct, but not 5003. 5003 would be a Z-1, and no Z-1 received EB paint.
