If there is one product that is linked to many great railways it's coal; black diamonds...money.... The Canadian Pacific Railway hauls lots of coal; especially in Western Canada.... in my era it was hauled in many types of open hoppers to the Pacific for shipment to the far east and back into the easteen provinces.... While not my specialty, I have modeled some coal hauling.... here's a few shots.. let's see your coal haulers.... An Alco (CLC) C424 hauls some empties back to the mines of the interior around Nelson.... Empties and full cars await their shunts in the yards..... Money............ dark and dirty money on it's way to ports...... Ok folks..........."got coal" ?
Yup...BN's Powder River Basin...lots of coal...but is it wrong for an 8 year old boy to ask for coal for Christmas? Never worked as a threat when I was a kid...get coal for Christmas, I had car loads...

Wellllllllllllllll...not really a coal train...BUT...I am almost willing to bet we ALL have at least one coal car somewhere in our collection of cars. Here are 2 that run in my consist...someday I will find a place for them to unload...LOL. :tb-biggrin: .

Considering that I live near the N&W/NS mainline in southeast Virginia, I have a few........Hundred coal cars.:tb-biggrin: Here's four SD80MAC's easily pulling a 123 car coal drag on the the Red Line Route at the Derby City Express.
